  • Author: Sophie
  • Total Time: 25-30 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 2-3 as an appetizer 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This baked feta with sesame and honey recipe is a delightful combination of creamy, salty feta cheese crusted with nutty toasted sesame seeds and drizzled with sweet honey. Baked to perfection with fresh oregano and olive oil, it makes an elegant and easy appetizer served warm with pita bread for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Feta:

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
  • 200g block feta
  • 2 tbsp honey, plus extra to serve
  • 1 tsp roughly chopped oregano
  • Olive oil, for drizzling

To Serve:

  • Warmed pita breads

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Heat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan) or gas mark 6, ensuring it’s ready to perfectly bake the feta.
  2. Toast Sesame Seeds: Lightly toast 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds in a dry pan until golden and fragrant. Set aside in a shallow dish for coating.
  3. Coat the Feta with Honey and Sesame: Brush the entire block of feta generously all over with 2 tablespoons of honey. Then gently press the honey-coated feta into the toasted sesame seeds, turning it carefully to create an even, crunchy crust on all sides.
  4. Prepare for Baking: Place the sesame-crusted feta block into a snug baking dish. Sprinkle roughly chopped oregano and a pinch of sea salt evenly over the top. Drizzle with olive oil to enhance richness during baking.
  5. Bake the Feta: Bake the feta in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until it softens and becomes slightly golden, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Finish and Serve: Once baked, drizzle a little extra honey over the feta for a glossy finish. Serve immediately with warmed pita breads on the side, perfect for dipping and scooping.

Notes

  • For best results, use a firm block of feta that holds its shape well under heat.
  • Adjust honey quantity to taste based on your preferred sweetness level.
  • Warm the pita breads before serving for a soft and pleasant texture contrast.
  • Can also be served with crusty bread or fresh vegetable crudités.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and consume within 2 days.
