Description

This Beef Stroganoff French Bread Toast is a delicious twist on the classic comfort dish, combining tender beef sirloin cooked in a creamy mushroom sauce served atop crispy, buttery toasted French bread slices. Perfect as an appetizer or main course, this recipe brings rich flavors and satisfying textures together in a simple and elegant dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Stroganoff

  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

French Bread Toast

  • 1 French baguette or large loaf of French bread
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook Onions: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 3 minutes.
  2. Sauté Garlic and Mushrooms: Stir in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms and cook for another 5 minutes until the mushrooms are tender.
  3. Brown the Beef: Add the sliced beef to the skillet and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Add Flour: Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  5. Add Liquids and Simmer: Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring, then add Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Incorporate Sour Cream: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sour cream until fully combined. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Prepare Bread: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the French bread into 1-inch thick slices and spread softened butter on each slice.
  8. Toast Bread: Place the buttered bread slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes or until golden.
  9. Assemble and Serve: Place a toasted bread slice on each plate, spoon the beef stroganoff mixture on top, and garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced sirloin for tender and quick cooking beef.
  • Make sure to cook the flour well to avoid any raw taste in the sauce.
  • Sour cream should be added off the heat to prevent curdling.
  • To make this dish gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend and ensure bread is gluten-free.
  • Fresh parsley adds a nice color contrast and fresh flavor as a garnish.
  • Leftover stroganoff mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
