Description

These Brown Sugar Donuts are a healthier twist on a classic treat, made with Truvia® sweeteners for lower sugar content. They are lightly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, baked to perfection for a soft, moist texture, and finished with a cinnamon-stevia topping for a guilt-free indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Truvia® Sweet Complete® Brown With a Hint of Molasses
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1/4 cup Non-Fat Milk
  • 1/4 cup Plain Non-Fat Yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract

Topping

  • 1 cup Truvia® Sweet Complete® Granulated All-Purpose Stevia Leaf Sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) to ensure it’s hot enough to bake the donuts evenly.
  2. Prepare Donut Pan: Spray a donut pan with non-stick spray and set it aside to prevent the donuts from sticking.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until well combined. This sets the base for your batter.
  4. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, Truvia® Sweet Complete® Brown sweetener, non-fat milk, and non-fat yogurt until smooth. Then whisk in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined. The batter will be thick; avoid overmixing to keep the donuts tender.
  6. Fill Donut Pan: Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cup about 2/3 to 3/4 full for even rising and shape.
  7. Bake: Bake the donuts for 9-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool: Let the donuts cool in the pan for about two minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack set on parchment paper or a baking sheet to cool for at least 10 minutes before adding the topping.
  9. Prepare Topping: Mix the granulated Truvia® sweetener and ground cinnamon in a bowl. Dip each cooled donut briefly in melted unsalted butter, then coat generously in the cinnamon-stevia mixture.
  10. Serve and Store: Enjoy your donuts fresh, or store them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter; a thick batter is expected and key to fluffy donuts.
  • Use a piping bag or zip-top bag with a corner snipped off for easy and even filling of the donut pan.
  • If you don’t have a donut pan, you can use a muffin pan, but the texture and shape will differ.
  • These donuts store well at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of ground cloves or allspice to the dry ingredients.
