Description

Delight in these Easy Cinnamon Rolls made from convenient frozen bread dough. Soft, fluffy, and infused with a buttery cinnamon-sugar filling, these rolls are topped with a creamy, sweet frosting that’s simple to whip up. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or special brunch, the recipe requires minimal prep and uses thawed bread dough to save you time.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 3 loaves frozen bread dough (3 x 1-pound loaves)
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Frosting

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Thaw Bread Dough: Allow the frozen bread dough to thaw completely. For best results, leave it in the refrigerator overnight to ensure it thaws evenly and is ready to handle.
  2. Roll Out Dough: Combine the three loaves on a clean surface and roll the dough into a large rectangle roughly 1/4 inch thick, preparing it for the filling.
  3. Add Filling: Spread the softened butter evenly over the entire surface of the dough. Mix the cinnamon and sugar together, then sprinkle this mixture uniformly over the buttered dough.
  4. Roll and Slice: Tightly roll the dough up along the long edge to form a log. Use dental floss or a serrated knife to carefully cut the roll into 12 even pieces.
  5. Prepare for Rising: Spray a 9×13 inch casserole dish with cooking spray. Arrange the cinnamon roll pieces inside snugly. Lightly cover with plastic wrap and let them rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, approximately 30–60 minutes.
  6. Preheat Oven & Add Cream: While the rolls rise, preheat your oven to 350˚F. Just before baking, pour ½ cup of heavy cream over the rolls to keep them moist during baking.
  7. Bake: Bake the cinnamon rolls for 22–28 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown on top.
  8. Make Frosting: While the rolls cool slightly, combine ¼ cup butter, vanilla extract, and salt in a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, alternately add powdered sugar and ⅓ cup heavy cream until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  9. Frost Rolls: Once the cinnamon rolls have cooled enough to be warm to the touch but not hot, evenly spread the frosting over the tops. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • For an overnight rising method, cover the rolls and let them rise slowly in the refrigerator overnight, then bake the next morning.
  • Using dental floss instead of a knife to cut the rolls helps keep the layers intact and prevents squishing.
  • Make sure not to overbake to keep the rolls soft and tender.
  • The heavy cream poured over the rolls before baking adds extra moisture and richness.
