Description

Flavor Mash-Up Sandwiches combine a delightful medley of Italian cold cuts, fresh cheeses, and crunchy vegetables tossed in a tangy herb-infused dressing, packed into hearty Italian rolls for a satisfying and flavorful meal perfect for lunch or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meats and Cheeses

  • 3.5 oz Genoa salami, sliced
  • 3.5 oz smoked turkey breast, sliced
  • 3.5 oz mortadella, sliced
  • 3.5 oz hot capicola, sliced
  • 3.5 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1.75 oz fresh mozzarella, diced

Vegetables

  • 1 cup iceberg lettuce, finely shredded
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered
  • 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup pepperoncini peppers, sliced
  • 1/2 cup roasted red peppers, chopped
  • 1/4 cup pitted black olives, sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, diced

Other

  • 4 Italian hoagie rolls or ciabatta rolls, split

Dressing

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Meats and Cheeses: Chop all meats and cheeses into uniform, bite-sized pieces to ensure even distribution and ease of eating.
  2. Combine Main Salad Components: In a large mixing bowl, add the chopped meats, cheeses, shredded lettuce, quartered cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, sliced pepperoncini peppers, chopped roasted red peppers, sliced black olives, and diced cucumber.
  3. Mix Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, extra-virgin olive oil, Dijon mustard, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until emulsified and smooth.
  4. Dress & Toss Filling: Pour the prepared dressing over the bowl with the chopped mixture and toss thoroughly until all the ingredients are evenly coated, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. Prepare Rolls: Split the Italian hoagie or ciabatta rolls horizontally. If desired, lightly toast the rolls until golden to add a slight crunch and warm aroma.
  6. Fill Sandwiches: Generously heap the dressed meat and vegetable mixture onto each prepared roll, making sure to evenly distribute the filling.
  7. Serve or Chill: Serve the sandwiches immediately for a fresh taste or wrap tightly and refrigerate up to 2 hours to allow the flavors to deepen and meld.

Notes

  • For added texture, consider adding some sliced pickles or substituting the mayonnaise with a light Greek yogurt for a tangier dressing.
  • These sandwiches are best enjoyed the same day but can be refrigerated for up to 2 hours before serving.
  • Lightly toasting the rolls enhances the flavor and prevents sogginess when holding the moist filling.
  • Customize with your favorite Italian cold cuts or add some fresh basil leaves for extra aroma.
