- 4 Bramley apples, peeled, cored and grated
- 350g light muscovado sugar
- Zest and juice of 1 orange
- Zest and juice of 1 lemon
Spices
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp allspice
Dried Fruits
- 100g dried cranberries
- 100g sultanas
- 100g raisins
- 100g currants
Additional Ingredients
- 100ml brandy
- 85g flaked almonds
- 100g shredded suet or light shredded vegetable suet
Instructions
- Simmer the Base: Place the grated Bramley apples along with their juices, light muscovado sugar, orange zest and juice, and lemon zest and juice into a large saucepan. Gently bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add Spices and Dried Fruits: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, allspice, dried cranberries, sultanas, raisins, currants, and the brandy. Mix thoroughly and set the mixture aside to cool completely.
- Incorporate Almonds and Suet: Once the mincemeat mixture is cool, fold in the flaked almonds and shredded suet or vegetable suet until evenly distributed throughout.
- Package for Storage: Divide the finished mincemeat between sterilised jars or suitable plastic containers. Seal tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months unopened, or freeze for up to 6 months to maintain freshness.
