Popcorn Ingredients
- ¼ cup popcorn kernels
- 1 Tbsp. oil (coconut, peanut, grapeseed, or vegetable oil)
- ¼ tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. melted butter (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Add ¼ cup popcorn kernels to a 5-quart heavy-bottomed saucepan. Pour in 1 tablespoon of your preferred oil (such as coconut, peanut, grapeseed, or vegetable oil) to coat the kernels for even popping.
- Start Heating: Place the lid on the saucepan and turn the burner to high heat. The oil will heat quickly and start popping the kernels soon after.
- Shake the Pot: Every 30 seconds, carefully give the pot a good shake. This prevents kernels from burning and helps ensure even popping throughout the batch.
- Manage Heat During Popping: When you hear the first pop, remove the pot from direct heat but keep it held about an inch or two above the burner. This technique prevents the already popped kernels from burning while allowing unpopped kernels to continue cooking.
- Finish Popping: When the popping slows down significantly, turn off the heat and carefully remove the lid, being cautious of the hot steam and any last kernels that may pop unexpectedly.
- Season Your Popcorn: Sprinkle half of the salt and half of the melted butter over the popcorn. Toss well to evenly coat the kernels. Then add the remaining salt and butter, tossing once more to achieve a perfect balance of flavor.
Notes
- Use a heavy-bottomed pot to distribute heat evenly and reduce the risk of burning popcorn.
- Shaking the pan frequently is key to preventing kernels from sticking and burning.
- Adjust the salt and butter amounts to suit your taste preferences.
- If you prefer, substitute the butter with flavored oils or seasoning blends.
- Ensure the lid fits tightly to keep the popcorn contained and cook evenly.
