Ingredients
Scale
Steak Ingredients
- 2 pieces ribeye or filet mignon steaks
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp butter (for basting)
- 1 sprig rosemary (optional)
Shrimp Ingredients
- 12 pieces large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- Salt (to taste)
Instructions
- Season the shrimp: Add the shrimp and season with smoked paprika and salt. Cook them in a hot skillet for 2 minutes per side until they turn pink and develop slight charred edges, indicating they are cooked through.
- Sear the steaks: Drizzle olive oil into the skillet and sear the steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side to achieve medium-rare doneness. Add butter and rosemary to the pan, then baste the steaks with the melted butter for about 1 minute to enhance flavor and moisture.
- Rest the steaks: Remove the steaks from the skillet and allow them to rest for 5 minutes. This helps the juices redistribute, resulting in a tender and juicy steak when sliced.
- Sauté garlic for shrimp: In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and sauté the minced garlic for 30 seconds until fragrant, infusing the butter with garlic flavor.
- Cook the shrimp again: Add the shrimp back into the skillet with the garlic butter, seasoning with smoked paprika and salt if needed. Cook the shrimp for 2 minutes per side until pink and slightly charred.
- Add lemon juice: Drizzle the freshly squeezed lemon juice over the shrimp and toss to coat evenly, adding brightness and acidity to the dish.
- Serve: Plate the shrimp alongside the sliced steak and enjoy this flavorful surf and turf meal.
Notes
- For perfectly cooked steak, use a meat thermometer aiming for 130°F for medium-rare.
- Allow steaks to rest before slicing to retain juiciness.
- Peeled and deveined shrimp cook quickly; avoid overcooking to keep them tender.
- Rosemary is optional but adds a wonderful aroma and flavor during basting.
- Adjust smoked paprika amount to control the smokiness level in the shrimp.
