Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs
- 500 g / 1 lb ground beef (beef mince)
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or 3/4 cup normal breadcrumbs)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp oil (for frying)
Toppings & Serving
- 6 – 8 processed cheese slices
- Baby gherkins (whole and halved lengthwise)
- Ketchup, to serve
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Place the ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, and egg in a bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly mix all ingredients until well combined.
- Chill the Mixture: Refrigerate the meatball mixture for 30 minutes to firm it up and make it easier to handle. If you’re in a hurry, add extra breadcrumbs to achieve a rollable consistency.
- Form Meatballs: Using heaped tablespoons, dollop portions onto the work surface. Then roll each portion into a round ball with your hands. Repeat until all the mixture is formed.
- Prepare Cheese Topping: Cut the processed cheese slices into small squares, enough to top each meatball.
- Prepare Gherkins: Cut larger baby gherkins in half lengthwise for serving.
- Cook Meatballs: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add meatballs in batches, shaking the pan occasionally so they rotate and cook evenly. Fry until browned all over and cooked through, about 5 minutes per batch. Drain excess oil between batches but keep some for the next batch.
Notes
- You can substitute panko breadcrumbs with regular breadcrumbs, using a slightly smaller quantity for normal breadcrumbs.
- Adding Worcestershire sauce adds a savory depth of flavor that mimics the taste of a classic cheeseburger.
- If preferred, you can serve these meatballs with mustard or mayonnaise instead of ketchup for variety.
- Ensure the meatballs are cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for beef to ensure safety.
