  • Using Bramley apples provides the best tartness, but you can substitute with other firm cooking apples if needed.
  • Add a splash of vanilla extract for a sweeter aroma.
  • Make sure to sterilise your jars properly to extend shelf life and maintain freshness.

Storage

Store your fruity mincemeat in airtight sterilised jars in the fridge for up to 3 months. For longer storage, freeze in suitable containers for up to 6 months. When ready to use, thaw overnight in the refrigerator. This mincemeat can be served cold or gently warmed to enhance the flavors.

Yes, light shredded vegetable suet works well as a vegetarian substitute and maintains the traditional texture. You can also use coconut oil as a different alternative but it will alter the flavor slightly.

Is it necessary to add brandy?

Brandy adds depth and helps preserve the mincemeat, but you can omit it if preferred. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute with apple juice or a splash of orange juice.
