A round white marble plate filled with playful fruit and snack shapes arranged in groups. At the top center are six peeled orange segments stacked in two layers of three, each with green stems on top, showing bright orange texture. To the left, there are clusters of dark blueberries mixed with peeled lychee fruits that have black grapes in their centers and white candy eyeballs on top, creating a spooky look. Below them, red apple slices are arranged in pairs to look like open mouths, with white almond slivers arranged inside to look like teeth. To the right of the oranges, green and black grapes are stacked in rows with candy eyeballs on them, appearing as funny little creatures. At the bottom, small wrapped snacks with white coating and candy eyeballs are placed side by side, resembling small mummies. The entire scene is laid on a white marbled background. photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

Ingredients

  • 70g white chocolate, plus extra for sticking on the eyeballs
  • 3 small bananas, peeled and cut in half crosswise
  • Eyeball cake decorations or black writing icing or edible ink pen
  • Small piece of celery
  • 6 small tangerines, peeled
  • 1 red apple, cored and cut into 6 wedges
  • 2 tbsp nut butter (we used almond)
  • 25g yogurt-coated raisins
  • 425g can lychees in juice, drained
  • 150g blueberries
  • 250g black and green grapes
  • Short wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a small pan of simmering water or in the microwave in 20-second bursts. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
  2. Step 2: Place the banana halves on a tray lined with baking parchment. Drizzle the cooled chocolate over them in a criss-cross pattern to resemble bandages.
  3. Step 3: Attach eyeball decorations to the bananas using extra melted white chocolate or draw eyes on with black writing icing or an edible ink pen. Chill the bananas for about 30 minutes until the chocolate sets.
  4. Step 4: For the tangerine pumpkins, cut tiny stalks from the celery piece and insert them into the tops of the tangerines where the segments meet.
  5. Step 5: To make apple fangs, cut a small wedge from the peel side of each apple wedge to form lips. Fill the ‘mouth’ with nut butter, then press yogurt-coated raisins into the nut butter to look like wonky teeth.
  6. Step 6: For lychee eyeballs, stuff each lychee with a blueberry. Secure eyeball decorations onto the blueberries with melted white chocolate or spear them together with skewers.
  7. Step 7: Create grape snakes by threading alternating green and black grapes onto short wooden skewers. Attach eyeball decorations to the grapes using some melted white chocolate.
  8. Step 8: Arrange all the prepared fruit figures on a large serving platter. Fill any gaps with leftover blueberries and add any spooky Halloween decorations you like for extra effect.

Tips & Variations

  • Use almond or peanut butter depending on preference or allergies for the apple fangs.
  • If eyeball decorations aren’t available, draw eyes with edible ink pens or black writing icing easily found in baking aisles.
  • Chill the platter before serving to keep the chocolate set and fruits fresh.
  • Try adding other fruits like kiwi slices or strawberries for more color and variety.

Storage

Store the assembled fruit platter in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. For best results, keep the banana bandages chilled to prevent discoloration. Reheat is not necessary—serve chilled for maximum freshness and flavor.

FAQs

Can I prepare this platter in advance?

Yes, you can assemble the platter a few hours ahead, but it’s best to add fragile decorations like eyeballs close to serving time to keep them fresh and intact.

You can use black writing icing or an edible ink pen to draw spooky eyes directly onto the fruit instead of using decorations.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mummy bananas: Melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in 20-second bursts in the microwave, then cool to room temperature. Place the banana halves on a parchment-lined tray and drizzle the melted chocolate in a criss-cross pattern to resemble mummy bandages.
